SANDIDERM/WRAP AFTERCARE

Saniderm is a transparent, medical-grade, waterproof, and breathable bandage designed to promote tattoo healing by shielding it from external bacteria and sealing in healing fluids.

Once the Saniderm (or clear bandage) is applied, I recommend leaving it on for 3-4 days, with a maximum of 5 days. However, it must stay on for at least 24 hours. During the initial days, you may notice the bandage filling with blood, ink, or plasma from your tattoo—this is completely normal and won’t affect the healing process. Since it’s water-resistant, you can shower with it on, but DO NOT soak it in water. This means avoiding baths, oceans, pools, hot tubs, and similar activities. If the Saniderm begins to leak from the sides, peel off before
3-4 days, or expose the tattoo in anyway, remove it immediately.

After 3-4 days, remove the bandage while in the shower using warm water (after your usual routine). The easiest method is to peel it off slowly, allowing water to flow between the bandage and your tattoo. DO NOT pull it off quickly or rip it off like a regular bandage, as this can be painful and may harm your fresh tattoo. For the best results, peel in a steady motion and in the same direction, similar to removing a command strip.

After removing the Saniderm (or clear bandage), wash your tattoo gently with clean hands using an antibacterial soap. (I recommend Orange Dial Antibacterial Soap.) Allow the tattoo to air dry or pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Apply a light layer of unscented moisturizer—Lubriderm is a great choice as it’s a water-based lotion. Use just a thin layer; over-moisturizing can hinder the healing process. Clean and moisturize your tattoo 1-2 times daily for about two weeks.

DO NOT USE SANIDERM IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY TO ADHESIVES

REGULAR AFTERCARE

After washing your tattoo, apply a light layer of unscented moisturizer (I recommend Lubriderm as it is a water-based lotion). Avoid using Aquaphor or A&D, as they are petroleum jelly-based and could cause issues during the healing process (such as clogged pores or excessive scabbing). If you'd like, you can loosely wrap your fresh tattoo with saran wrap on the first night to prevent blood or ink from staining your clothes or sheets.

You’ll leave the shop with the tattoo wrapped. Keep the wrap on for 1-2 hours. Once you’re home, wash your tattoo using clean hands and antibacterial soap (I recommend Orange Dial Antibacterial Soap). Allow the tattoo to air dry, or gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
